There is a very interesting Siberian plant - Siberian princes( atragens), or they are also called Siberian clematis growing in Siberia. The plant is very hardy, but we, in the North-West region, do not have winter hardiness of plants, since we do not have severe frosts. We often have frosts without snow, which is very bad for the root system. And long winter thaws, which for most pretty-frost-resistant plants is fatal. The main thing is that we are ruining plants - spring long frosts, up to - 6. ..- 8 degrees. Princes have taken root in us, and they endure these frosts without any cover. They hibernate even with a small snow cover, because the above-ground part of them dies in the autumn, and in the spring it grows again, the root system is very frost-hardy, so that they practically do not require shelter for the winter. Especially since the above-ground part of the vine is not necessary to cut, here it is and will cover its own rhizome.

In the early spring princes quickly grow and almost immediately become covered with leaves, blossom in July and abundantly blossom until very late, almost all summer. Flowers resemble small drooping bells. There are white, pink and blue colors.

It is rather difficult to purchase these plants, since they are not very common in our country. Princes easily reproduce by seeds, and, naturally, there is no splitting in the progeny, because these are not hybrids, but those very lianas that grow in nature. Plants from the seeds grow rapidly and blossom, as a rule, already in the 2-3rd year. As soon as the seeds are ripe, you take the seeds, sow them for the winter, and they rise the next year, and in a year you can already seat them in place. In general, the prince's germination is not very high, but these breed well, though they do not tolerate the pick-up( first transplant), so it is better to replace them in 2 years.

An unpretentious plant that grows better on the sunny side. Plant the soil with some other plants do not. Naturally, it needs support, all sorts of decorative supports, tunnels, arbours. Princes are planted like all other vines. We need drainage, good, humus soil of weakly acid reaction. If you want to bloom every year, half a bucket of humus should be poured under the vine in early summer each year. Recommend instead of the usual clematis, hybrid, it is better to plant princes, because with them there are no problems - neither diseases, nor pests.

Now in the whole world breeders have a great interest to the princes. Works are conducted in the direction of increasing the flower and giving it a variety of colors. There are already double forms. Hybrids, naturally, are best propagated by green cuttings or layers at the beginning of summer.
