Mounting the floor plastic skirting with your own hands
Required Tools:
- Metal saw or clerical knife;
- Parker;
- Puncher;
- Rotary Hammer;
- Screwdriver;
- Nozzles;
- Roulette;
- Self-tapping screws;
- Plinths and special fittings( corners, blind plugs and special connectors).
Advantages of plinth from plastic:
- Waterproof;
- They are much easier to install than the same wooden ones;
- Light;
- Have a smooth and smooth surface;
- Essential flexibility, the preservation of its forms( which is quite important for uneven walls);
- Internal channels for wiring or antenna cable;
- It is unpretentious to care( they just need to wipe with a damp rag).
The skirts of the skirting boards are of little - they are afraid of low temperatures and more fragile compared to the skirting boards made of wood.
How do I determine the number of bars needed for a room?
Traditionally, the length of 1 bar - 2.5 meters( although it can be smaller).Before the installation, we need to know how many whips are needed. The mathematics here are simple:
- accurately measure the length of the perimeter of your territory where repairs are in progress;
- add to the resulting number of one and a half meters and divide the entire amount by the length of one skirting board), after - round the figure to a larger number.
You also need to calculate in advance the number of all corners in the room( both external obstacles and internal ones).There will be special corner nozzles. Do not forget to purchase and simple connectors for the two ends of each bar. By the way, it is better to buy connectors with a stock, suddenly you have to cut something. For a doorway or furniture that is standing next to the wall - you need to buy special "blind" gags( right and left - two pieces per object).
The process of installing plastic floorboards
Marking
- We proceed to the immediate installation. We begin with a marking from the farthest corner from the entrance door, which is in contact with the straight section of the wall.
- We put on the floor cornice the docking angle, then apply our skirting to the corner of the room. See that it strictly "fit" with its perpendicular sides into the corner of the room.
- The very first segment should be marked approximately 5-10 cm from the end of the corner.
- The remaining points are marked at 25-50 cm from the original. In this case, if the site is flat, then the segment will have a long length and vice versa.
- After the marking, the bar is temporarily shelved.
Make holes
If you have a brick or concrete wall in your house, then drill the base of the wall at the marked points with a perforator with a special nozzle. After you have made the holes, be sure to clean up the building debris and dust. After hammer there dowels. If you have a base of a wall, for example, plasterboard, pile-stone or other similar material - then the screws for fixing the bars should be driven through the slats into the marked points directly, without pre-drilling.
The size of the screws: There are different ways, but there is an "averaged option" - most often for fixing the skirting boards take self-cutters 3.5 x 35 mm and with a diameter of 5 mm.
Installation of a floor plinth:
- Apply a plinth to the marked wall, look, where our screwed dowels.
- Remove from the whip the central decorative plate.
- We pierce the shilom bar. The main thing is that the hole in the wall coincides with the holes in the fastening of the screws on the bar. Self-tapping screws should be fastened approximately in the middle of the height of the plinth.
- In the through channels we insert screws and screw them to the stop. As a result, the screw of the screw must fully enter the whip. Screw self-tapping screws so that the plastic does not stick. If this happens, - slightly unscrew the screws. It is best to not tighten all the screws at once - this will allow the skirting to be evenly pressed against the base surface over its entire area.
- We close the screw heads with an external decor profile.
- At the very end of the first, already fixed bar, we insert a connector. In it, we "tighten" the end of the next whip and fix it. Yes, the docking of skirting boards in the room is traditionally done approximately in the middle of the wall.
- To correctly connect the inner corner with the whip of the plinth, which is on the wall at a right angle( perpendicular), apply the bar along the adjoining end of the wall, then push it into the inner corner, and press down to the very end of the stop bar. Then the plinths are fixed, similarly to the method described above.
- According to this scheme in the future will be fixed skirting around the perimeter of the room.
Trim skirting in the corners of the room
Here ends one side, and we fix that the next plinth is obviously longer and does not fit. What to do? We need to cut it. To do this, you first need to attach a consulting stub to the corner of the room. Then measure the segment to the plug and to the end of the corner of the room. After that, it is necessary to cut the plastic precisely, but with such a calculation that it does not reach the end of the wall a little( up to 5 mm).This gap then "takes" its own docking area. Cut the skirting board with a hacksaw, jig saw or electric jigsaw. Some use for this purpose and Bulgar, but this is already very exotic. The cut piece of plinth is fixed in the same way as described above.
Internal channel for the
cable Plastic skirting boards are so good that, in addition to flexibility and ease of installation, many models have a special internal channel in which it is convenient to arrange wiring or a TV cable. To place the communications, you just need to open the cable cover, lay the wire and then close the cover. In addition, the cable and wires can also be laid in the space between the wall and the edge of the whip of the plinth. Yes, do not forget, if you put in the plinths of communication, in all cases, you need to carefully cut openings for them in connectors and corner stubs.
That's all. We hope that our advice helped you to understand the issue of installing a plastic skirting board. Successful repair!
