  • The phenomenon of magnetic storms

    Natural natural electromagnetic fields play an important role in the self-organization of biological systems. Scientists suggest that the rhythms of heliogeographic factors "brought" our "biological clocks", that is, one of the external synchronizers of vital human functions, at an early stage of evolution. There is an analogy of the origin of the daily biorhythms with the rhythms of the wave radiation of the Sun, i.e., the illumination and temperature associated with the daily rotation of the Earth.

    Scientists, in particular, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor SI Rapoport and Ph. D.Sciences T. K. Breus, as a result of a long work came to the following conclusions.

    Of all the characteristics of solar activity, mainly variations in the geomagnetic field of the Earth( geomagnetic activity) affect the cardiac activity and the performance of the cardiovascular system.

    The time structure of bioobjects has rhythms with periods of about 28 days, about 14, about 7 and about 3.5 days, which are universal for all living organisms, from cell to population. Seaweed, solitary cells and groups of cells( myocardium( heart muscle), pineal gland) all have a weekly and semi-weekly rhythm. The degree of expression depends on the level of the system. For example, the myocardial cell has a half-week rhythm, while the content of melatonin in the pineal glandThese rhythms are stable and free flowing, in the presence of an external stimulus they synchronize with it. This is the stimulus are the heliogeographical rhythms having periods coordinated with time(periods, harmonics and subharmonics - 28 days, 14 days, 7 and 3.5 days)

    The weekly rhythms of the main body systems of newborns coincide with the weekly rhythm of one of the main parameters of geomagnetic activity( the so-called Kp index).

    The mortality from myocardial infarction is directly dependent on the 11-year cycle of solar activity. The main "target" for the effect of heliogeomagnetic activity are the heart and the cardiovascular system in a state of imbalance, namely, rapid development(in infants), when the adaptive systems of the body are still in the stage of formation or in the case of coronary heart disease.

    Pulsating heart cells can suddenly stop their rhythm under the influence of very weak perturbations, i.e., a drastic change in the state of the system can occur. There are laboratory studies in which electromagnetic fields of low and very low frequency led to changes in heart rate, arrhythmia and the development of myocardial infarction.

    The greatest danger with respect to myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction is possessed only by strong planetary geomagnetic storms, accompanied by a decrease in the intensity of cosmic rays. Such storms arise, as a rule, due to the propagation in the interplanetary medium of coronal emissions of the mass of the Sun and the formation of magnetic "clouds" in which the main component of the interplanetary magnetic field( Bz) takes negative values, which are an order of magnitude larger than the mean.

    It is comforting that these phenomena occur extremely rarely. But it's too early to calm down. The fact is,

    that not only people with cardiovascular disorders are at risk, but also healthy individuals whose adaptive system is overstrained due to constant stress. Especially if the stress in a person passes into the syndrome of chronic fatigue.

    Therefore, if a person is young enough and his state of health does not require correction, but works "to wear out", sitting in the evening at the TV screen or at the computer well after midnight, one can expect the appearance of unpleasant "sensations" following a small magnetic "ferret ":

    increase in blood pressure;

    nasal bleeding;

    increase in blood viscosity;

    worsening emotional state;and

    change in heart rate, etc.

    Of course, the "phenomenon of magnetic storms" does not represent a universal danger for people. We need a specific targeted approach, taking into account the nature of the phenomenon and this person. Therefore, very important is the prevention of diseases, increasing immunity and adaptive abilities of the body.

    Every person reacts to magnetic storms simply because he is a living creature. Moreover, if people did not have the ability to perceive the geomagnetic;changes, they would have long since all died out. Therefore, if someone believes that he does not react to magnetic storms, he is a very healthy person, with strong adaptive capabilities and his body responds adequately to solar explosions.

    For the vast majority of people, a magnetic storm is a stressful situation for the body. It is proved that the magnetic storm suppresses the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for adaptation. Large storms can lead to the development of desynchronosis - a malfunction in biorhythms, which almost inevitably affects the well-being. The adrenal cortex during a magnetic storm works under stress. For example, much more cortisol( the "stress hormone") is released.

    The statistics of the "first aid" for many years confirms - in the days of magnetic storms( as well as a day before and after), the number of calls for angina attacks, coronary heart disease, heart rhythm disturbances increases. In hypertensive patients, a magnetic storm causes the same changes in the body as in strong experiences. That is why in days of storms heart attacks and strokes and, alas, death rate from them are much more often registered.

    We have not conducted any special studies on the effect of magnetic storms on the accident rate of vehicles. But since the nervous system of people "demagnetizes" during the storm, this affects the reaction rate. Most often it slows down, but in some cases it is also inadequate.

    In nature there is hardly anything absolutely harmful. Including magnetic storms can be very useful for us. For example, geomagnetic disturbances( this is also a storm, but small) is a great exercise. In conditions of "geomagnetic calm" we would feel much worse than usual. Not to mention the fact that the first real storm would seriously knock a man down.

    The magnetic storm should be treated calmly and do not expect trouble from it! It's pointless to hide behind an iron door, cover yourself with a blanket and "ground" with metal bracelets. What is really worth doing is to save yourself from extra loads.

    On the eve of a magnetic storm, it is not worth undertaking general cleaning, repair;

    should avoid problems that can cause trouble;

    managers should not make decisions on strategic strategic as well as personnel issues in the days of magnetic storms;

    should not be given advice such as "increase the dose of the medicine"( if you are not an attending physician!) In many cases, those who suffer from hypertension or ischemic heart disease require only a change in the time taken to take the medication, but only individually.

    Of course, it would be good to know about the coming storm to know for a month, for a week and depending on this, to build their plans for life. But a reliable forecast is possible only in one or two days - this is how much time the echoes of solar flares go to Earth.
