Pliers are sucking pests. Despite the external resemblance to insects, in fact they belong to the class of arachnids. Ticks are well known to us as creatures, dangerous even for humans. Who has not heard of the terrible encephalitis mites? In the recent past people often died and from infection by his relative - an itch mite. In general, most ticks( and there are as many as ten thousand species!) - parasites, and many more and vectors of viral infections. Nevertheless, ticks, dangerous to humans, do not harm plants, and vice versa.

In the case of flower growers, the most common problems are with a spider mite and root onion mites.

A spider mite, like most pests, is a small arthropod( up to 0.5 mm). These mites settle on the lower surface of the leaves, after which they pale, become whitish at first, then turn yellow and dry up. They are called spider webs because over the place where such a tick sucks up to the vein, it stretches a spider web.

It is not easy to fight ticks: they are resistant to many toxic chemicals. It is especially difficult to protect houseplants from them, since it is undesirable to apply strong chemical protection against pests - it is necessary to take out the affected plants on the balcony or on the street for treatment. In conditions of open ground it is very important to destroy all plant remains of damaged plants, since this kind of mite can winter them.

Root onion mites mainly damage bulbous and tuberous plants. Determine the onset of infection by them is very difficult: these mites settle in the bottom of the bulbs. If, when digging out the bulbs, you notice that the bottom is destroyed, next time plant them in another place and be sure to disinfect the bulbs themselves. To do this, they must be heated at a temperature slightly lower than forty degrees within a week, or even ten days, disinfect the storehouse and pour the bulbs with chalk.

It is possible to mention one more peculiar group of mites, affecting plants, about gall mites. They parasitize in the tissues of the plant, forcing them to degenerate and turn into special tumor( often spherical) growths - galls, with some galls reaching sizes with cherries. They can be found on trees.

Ticks affect both indoor and garden plants.
