  • How can I improve and enhance the Wi-Fi signal? List of effective tips

    click fraud protection

In the era of wireless technologies, most users preferred the transfer of Internet data via Wi-Fi. If you encounter a problem with poor quality of Wi-Fi signal, you can solve the problem in the following ways: by correctly installing the router, selecting an idle channel and standard Wi-Fi, setting the transmitter level to maximum, and checking the antennas, both router andadapter.

Due to the low level of Wi-Fi signal, the speed of Internet access decreases.

    Where is the router?

The further away you are from the Wi-Fi router, the worse the signal quality. Therefore, if possible, install the router in the place where you use the Internet more often.

As for the location, it is recommended that the router is high, for example, on the cabinet. It is not recommended to install the router near the wall, as this negatively affects the signal quality.

    Communication channel

The Wi-Fi router operates on one of 13 channels. In the default settings, any channel can be set. If several routers are working on the same channel, the quality of the network signal can deteriorate. We recommend using the utility WifiInfoView, with which you can scan all available Wi-Fi networks near you and see which channels they work on. Find the most free channel and configure the Wi-Fi router to work in it.

    Wi-Fi standard

Make sure that the latest standard of IEEE 802.11n data transfer is set in the router settings. If you have modern devices, then in the settings of the router you can set the work exclusively in this standard. If not all of your Wi-Fi devices support this standard, we recommend setting the mixed mode: "IEEE 802.11bgn"

    Power of the

transmitter Being in the settings of the router, check one more parameter - the transmitter power. This method will help to strengthen the Wi-Fi signal. Accordingly, the higher the transmitter power level, the better the network signal, and therefore the better the speed. Depending on the model of the router, this value can be set in percent( you need to set 100%), or in the values (you need to select "High" or "Maximum").

    Firmware update

The last simple way to improve the quality of the Wi-Fi signal is to install the latest firmware( software) on the router. To do this, go to the official website of the router manufacturer and download the latest version of the software. As practice shows, most problems in the work of the router are solved in subsequent releases of the software. After updating the firmware correctly configure the router, as all previous settings will be reset to the factory settings.

    Antennas

Most models of modern Wi-Fi routers are equipped with removable antennas. If necessary, you can buy larger antennas, and install them instead of the standard ones. The larger the antenna, the higher the range of the Wi-Fi network and the better its signal.

    Maybe it's in the adapter?

If you have a weak Wi-Fi signal, then the problem may be not only in the router, but also in the Wi-Fi module of the device. If, for example, you are using a laptop with a built-in Wi-Fi module, you can purchase an independent external Wi-Fi adapter with an antenna to improve the signal quality. In the existing adapter, you can change the antenna to a large one, if it is removable.
